    Advanced trainings start this week

Our second round of advanced trainings, which begins this week and runs through June, will give entrepreneurs the skills they need to gain financial control of their businesses.

Each monthly training covers a different topic and is offered at sites in Dover, Keene, Lancaster and Meredith. Classes are limited to 10 participants and are intensive and hands-on. Each session offers specific tools and exercises, culminating with the creation and presentation of financial plans for the participating businesses.

Advance registration is required for these trainings. MicroCredit-NH Leaders may attend for no cost as part of their membership benefits. Cost for all six sessions is $125 for other MicroCredit-NH members, and $210 for non-members. Per-session cost is $25 for all other MicroCredit-NH members, $35 for non-members.

Please see our Web site for more information, including the full training schedule.

Survival is theme of Entrepreneurial Exchange May 14

Everyone who makes a living running a small business is a survivor. But not everyone's struggles become national entertainment.

Betsy Bolan knows how that feels. She was voted off the island in last fall's CBS reality TV series "Survivor: Samoa."  And she'll share her experiences when she speaks at MicroCredit-NH's "Entrepreneurial Exchange 2010: How to Survive in Today's Economy," May 14 at the Grappone Center in Concord.

The Entrepreneurial Exchange is the premier training and networking conference for New Hampshire's smallest businesses. The full-day event includes the keynote address, workshops built specifically for microentrepreneurs, and plenty of opportunity to meet peers from around the state.

Bolan, the keynote speaker, has overcome some difficult obstacles, including her own substance abuse and her husband's diagnosis with stage-four prostate cancer, to become the person she always dreamed of being.

The workshops will include Professional Website Design on a Survivor Budget, facilitated by Link Moser from Windhill Design, and E-Myth Marketing.

Pre-registration is required. Fee is $55 ($45 for MicroCredit-NH members) and includes lunch and refreshments. To register or for more information, visit our Web site, or call MicroCredit-NH at (800) 769-3482.

    A resolution for 2010:
    Nurture your relationships year-round

The holiday season can be a time full of joy and excitement, a time when we gather with family and friends to share laughs, exchange gifts and indulge in some delectable treats. I hope you all have taken some time to savor relationships with those closest to you.

If you reflect on 2009, you may realize that your relationships — with your customers or clients, with your vendors, with your business group and in your networking circles — are what sustained you and your business.

As we move into a New Year and a new decade, make building relationships a priority. Focus on that aspect of business that takes practice and tenacity and look for opportunities to provide something beneficial to both parties.

May you receive the rewards of your persistence in business in the coming year. Wishing you much prosperity, health and happiness,

Donna Moison of Center Stage Fitness was invited as a guest instructor to present her "Santa Oh Baby" workshop last month at Cheeky Fitness on West Palm Beach, FL. Center Stage Fitness offers programs that combine Pilates, Yoga and choreographed pole dancing and will add a new studio location in New Hampshire this month.

Dagne Goodwin of Amelia Mae's & Company in Strafford, recently joined Made In NH and soon afterward got a call from the representative of a corporation who had followed her link from the Made In NH site. The result was the largest single order she had ever had — $1,000 worth of goods for an upcoming directors meeting. "I guess I need to focus more on corporate gifts, something I'll be working on in the new year, I'm sure," said Dagne, a member of the Future Fortunes group.

Erik Corbett, the new owner of Good Tail Lobster Pound  in Glen, a specialty retailer of fresh seafood, has announced that he is staying open through January. Good news for seafood lovers in the North Country!
